PURCHASE, N.Y. | Farmingdale State College saw its 2023 season come to a close Saturday afternoon, as the second-seeded Rams (25-12) fell to top-seeded host Manhattanville College (37-5) in the final round of the 2023 Skyline Conference Softball Championship. The Valiants forced an if-necessary game in the opening contest of the day with a 3-2 victory in eight innings, before securing a 6-1 triumph in the nightcap in a rematch of the previous two seasons' championship finals.

Game 1

Farmingdale State went ahead 1-0 in the top of the third inning with one away, with junior right fielder Jenna Giliberti (Bellmore, N.Y.) reaching on a left-side infield single before stealing second base. For the second day in a row, senior right fielder Priscilla Rivera (Brentwood, N.Y.) collected an opposite-field, RBI double to left field to put the visitors in front.

Single runs in the bottom of the fourth and sixth innings gave Manhattanville a 2-1 advantage, however FSC rallied to knot the game at 2-all in the top of the seventh. Freshman third baseman Christina Rodriguez (Vineland, N.J.) led off the frame with a long double to right field, before making way for pinch runner Alyssa Baez (Queens, N.Y.). Senior Allie Stanya (Manorville, N.Y.) next laid down a sacrifice bunt but was safe on an errant throw to first. On the play, Baez rounded third and ran home, leaping over a tag attempt by the Manhattanville catcher and touching home plate with the tying run. The game extended to extra innings, where the Valiants forced the decisive game when a throw down the first-base line trickled away to allow the winning run to score.

Freshman designated player Samantha Stolfi (Pt. Jefferson Station, N.Y.) picked up a single in the game, while Giliberti (two) and Rivera combined for three stolen bases. For Rivera, the swipe was her school-record 31st of the season. Stanya tossed a complete game in the pitcher's circle, fanning six Valiants.

Game 2

After a two-out solo homer gave Manhattanville a lead in the bottom of the first frame, FSC responded with a tying run in the top of the third. Giliberti ripped a one-out single up the middle, before Rivera followed suit with an infield single to give the Rams a pair of baserunners. In the next at-bat when junior shortstop Angelina Capuano (Sayville, N.Y.) grounded into a fielder's choice up the middle, Giliberti alertly rounded third and crossed the dish to level the contest.

The Valiants scratched four runs across the plate in their half of the fourth, before adding a run one inning later in support of Championship Most Outstanding Player Emily Mottoshiski, who tossed a complete-game five-hitter with three strikeouts.
