FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | Senior pitcher Allie Stanya (Manorville, N.Y.) (W, 5-4, 7.0 IP, 2 H, 5 SO) and sophomore pitcher Ava Shorr (North Babylon, N.Y.) (W, 6-4, 7.0 IP, 4 H, 5 SO) both tossed complete game shutouts to lead the Farmingdale State softball team to a sweep over Old Westbury on Saturday afternoon. Stanya pitched the Rams to a 4-0 victory in game one, while Shorr led FSC to a 5-0 win in the second game.

The Rams scored all four of their runs in the fourth inning of game one. Senior first baseman Brooke Walker (Hampton Bays, N.Y.) led off with a double to left field and scored two batters later on a sacrifice bunt by Shorr. Freshman third baseman Christina Rodriguez (Vineland, N.J.) followed with an RBI triple and quickly scored on a sacrifice bunt by Stanya to put the Rams up 3-0. With two outs in the inning, sophomore second baseman Alyssa Cowen (Garden City South, N.Y.) hit a single and scored on a triple by junior right fielder Jenna Giliberti (Bellmore, N.Y.) to give Farmingdale State the 4-0 lead.

Stanya allowed just one baserunner in the final three innings to earn the 4-0 victory for FSC.

Cowen was 2-for-3 with a run scored, while Giliberti and Rodriguez had a triple and an RBI. Walker was 1-for-1 with two walks and both Shorr and Stanya recorded one RBI each.

In game two, Giliberti led off the bottom of the first with a double and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by senior center fielder Priscilla Rivera (Brentwood, N.Y.). Junior shortstop Angelina Capuano (Sayville, N.Y.) batted next and hit an RBI single to left to bring home Giliberti. Capuano later scored on a wild pitch to put Farmingdale State in front, 2-0.

The Rams extended their lead in the second as Walker hit a two-out, two-run triple to score Cowen and Capuano. Freshman designated player Samantha Stolfi (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) immediately drove in Walker with a single to center field on the next pitch as FSC took a 5-0 advantage.

Old Westbury didn't get a runner past second base the rest of the game as Shorr picked up the shutout for the Rams, 5-0.

Stolfi went 2-for-2 with a walk and an RBI, while Capuano had a hit, walk, RBI and two runs scored. Walker registered a triple and two runs batted in and Giliberti finished with a double and a run scored.

The FSC softball team is right back at it tomorrow when they travel to Sarah Lawrence for a Skyline doubleheader on Sunday, April 16th at noon.
