Game 2: Farmingdale State - 6, Hunter - 1

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State softball team picked up two wins over Hunter College on Tuesday afternoon, earning a 3-2 walk-off win in game one and a 6-1 victory in the second game. With the wins, FSC improved to 7-8 overall, while the Hawks dropped to 7-15.

The Rams scored a run in the first and a run in the fifth to take a 2-0 advantage in game one. Freshman Samantha Stolfi (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) tallied an RBI double in the first before senior third baseman Brooke Walker (Hampton Bays, N.Y.) recorded an RBI triple in the fifth, both scoring senior center fielder Priscilla Rivera (Brentwood, N.Y.).

Down to their final out in the top of the seventh inning, Hunter's Paige Witalec hit a two-run double down the right field line to knot the score at 2-2.

In the bottom of the inning, Farmingdale State senior Alexis Flareau (Bay Shore, N.Y.) tallied a pinch-hit single before being replaced by pinch-runner Alyssa Baez (Queens, N.Y.). The next batter was junior right fielder Jenna Giliberti (Bellmore, N.Y.), and she hit a double to center to move Baez to third but a throwing error by the Hawks allowed her to score and give FSC the 3-2 walk-off victory.

Giliberti finished 3-for-4 at the plate, while Rivera was 2-for-2 with a walk and two runs scored.

Senior Allie Stanya (Manorville, N.Y.) tossed a complete game, allowing just six hits and striking out nine batters to improve to 3-4 on the season.

The Rams took an early 2-0 advantage in the second game as Walker scored Giliberti on a fielder's choice in the first before Farmingdale State scored on an error in the third.

Hunter got on the board with an RBI double in the top of the sixth to cut their deficit to one, 2-1, but FSC responded with four runs in the bottom half of the inning to take a 6-1 lead.

Senior Giana Galanoudis (Farmingdale, N.Y.) and pinch-hitter Jenna Scheingold (East Meadow, N.Y.) recorded RBI's in the inning with the other two runs coming on a wild pitch and an error.

Sophomore Ava Shorr (North Babylon, N.Y.) finished off the complete game with a scoreless seventh as she improved to 4-4 on the year. Shorr allowed only four hits and struck out a pair. She also went 3-for-3 at the dish with a run scored.

Freshman Christina Rodriguez (Vineland, N.J.) and Galanoudis tallied two hits, one run and one RBI each in the win. Giliberti and Walker registered two hits apiece and Rivera had a hit, walk and one run scored.

Farmingdale State next plays host to Baruch for a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday, April 13th at 4:00 p.m.
