FSC Falls to CMSV; Eliminated from Softball Championship

#4 Mount Saint Vincent - 6, #3 Farmingdale State - 2


Patchogue, N.Y. - Third-seeded Farmingdale State suffered their second loss of the Skyline Conference Softball Championship, 6-2, to #4 Mount Saint Vincent this afternoon in Patchogue, N.Y. The Rams have been eliminated from the championship, while the Dolphins advanced and will face #2 St. Joseph's-LI later this afternoon. 

In the top of the second, Farmingdale State (16-19) had two runners on with two outs and used a pinch hit 2 RBI triple to right field by Kayla Nuñez (Bay Shore, N.Y.) to open up a 2-0 advantage.

After scoring a run in the bottom of the second, the Dolphins (18-17) took a 4-2 lead in the third inning on a 3-run home run by senior pitcher Rachel Heizer (Vacaville, Calif.) which scored Deanna Nardi (Roseville, Calif.) and Alanna Alioto-Reyes (Alameda, Calif.).

In the bottom of the fourth, Mount Saint Vincent plated a run on a Alioto-Reyes RBI single to right which put the Dolphins out in front, 5-2. Mount Saint Vincent added the final run of the game in the next inning as they earned the 6-2 victory.

Junior third baseman Sierra Cardenales (Patchogue, N.Y.) was 2-for-3 at the plate, while Nuñez was 1-for-3 with a 2 RBI triple for the Rams.

Heizer finished the day with a double and home run, two runs scored and 3 RBI, while sophomore shortstop Taylor Milata (Queens, N.Y.) and sophomore second baseman Sophia Herrera (San Diego, Calif.) each added two hits. Heizer recorded the win and improved to 11-9 after tossing a complete game, allowing two runs on seven hits.
