Rams Wrap Up Regular Season against Briarcliffe

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State softball team wrapped up regular-season play with a split against non-conference opponent Briarcliffe College today. The Rams now stand at 20-12 overall and enter the Conference playoffs this weekend.

In game one, Farmingdale quickly grabbed a 3-0 lead in the first with RBI's from junior centerfielder Michelle Mongiello (Elmont, N.Y.), junior rightfielder Marissa Monaco (Bohemia, N.Y.) and freshman first baseman Lori Michalowski (Lindenhurst, N.Y.). Briarcliffe held the Rams scoreless the rest of the way, and would make it 3-2 in the third.

Sophomore pitcher Renee Chicco (North Babylon, N.Y.) pitched three innings of relief with no hits, one strikeout and one walk to secure the win and pick up her first save. Junior pitcher Taylor Webb (West Babylon, N.Y.) struck out seven over four innings with one walk.

Freshman second baseman Victoria D'Alessandro (Levittown, N.Y.) finished 3-for-3, while Michalowski and sophomore catcher Meagan Anderson (Patchogue, N.Y.) each tabbed two hits.

Farmingdale State fell in game two, 7-1, as they allowed 14 hits with four errors. Briarcliffe posted a run in the first and three in both the fourth and the sixth for the win. The Rams got on the board in the fifth. Freshman shortstop Kerri Ossenfort (Massapequa, N.Y.) knocked a single to center and moved to third on a fielding error, while a wild pitch would allow her to score the lone run.

The Rams now enter the Skyline Conference playoffs as the #3 seed for the double-elimination tournament format. FSC will be playing against #2 Mount Saint Mary College on Friday, April 25th at 3:00 p.m. at host Sage College.
