Softball End of Season Report

The softball team had an overall record of 11-11. The highlight of the season was a 12-0 win against Maritime College. Freshman pitcher Jaclyn Buckshaw threw a perfect game, the first in school history in just the third start of her collegiate career, which earned her Skyline Pitcher of the Week honors. In the third inning, senior catcher Kristen Tong hit the first out-of-the-park homerun at the field, sparking her tremendous season for the Rams.
Kristen led the team offensively and was named 1st Team All-Skyline Conference. Kristen currently stands among the NCAA Division III leaderboard for multiple categories. She leads the nation in RBI’s per game and ranks 3rd in doubles per game, 6th in slugging percentage and 11th for batting average. She was named WIAC Player of the week twice.
Third basemen Gina Moscato was second on the team in batting, while transfer Tiffany deBeaumont finished fourth on the team in hitting and provided great defense from her shortstop position.
Kristen Tong Named 1st Team All-Skyline

Senior catcher Kristen Tong (Swanzey, NH/Monadnock Regional) was named First Team All-Skyline for softball on May 7th. In Skyline Conference play, Kristen led the team in at-bats, runs scored, hits, doubles, triples, homeruns, RBI’s, slug percentage and on-base percentage. Overall, as of May 1st, Kristen leads the nation in Division III for RBI’s per game (1.68) and is 3rd in doubles per game (0.58). She is also ranked sixth in the nation for slugging percentage (0.955) and 11th in the nation for batting average (0.485)...

The Farmingdale State softball team ended their season with an 11-11 overall record, 8-8 in Skyline Conference play after a sweep over visiting Mount Saint Vincent (12-14, 4-12 Skyline) on Thursday afternoon at Farmingdale field. Jaclyn Buckshaw (Oakdale, NY/Connetquot) pitched two complete games allowing only seven hits for the Rams’ 3-2 and 22-1 victories.
Farmingdale freshman Rebecca Santoriello (Seaford, NY/Island Trees) was 3-for-3 in game one with a run scored and RBI. Tiffany deBeaumont (Farmingdale, NY/Farmingdale) had three hits and 5 RBI’s in game two for the Rams.
Mount Saint Vincent’s Mary Kate Walker (Goshen, NY/John S Burke) led the team with two hits. Daria Calvecchio (Broomall, PA/Archbishop Carroll) struck out six batter in defeat in game one.
Kristen Tong Named WIAC Player of the Week

Senior catcher/outfielder Kristen Tong (Swanzey, NH/Monadnock Regional) is this week's Softball player of the week. Tong, who is ranked third and fourth in the nation for RBI's and doubles per game, respectively, led the Rams with a .526 batting average over 5 games this week. Kristen had 10 hits, including 4 doubles and two homers, with 11 RBI's. Kristen's slugging percentage this week was 1.053. She now has 4 homeruns, 11 doubles and 2 triples this season, with a slugging percentage of .948.

Farmingdale State dropped to 9-9 overall, 6-6 Skyline after losing two close games to visiting conference opponent Kings Point (20-14, 12-3 Skyline) on Sunday afternoon at Farmingdale field.
Farmingdale’s freshman pitcher Jaclyn Buckshaw (Oakdale, NY/Connetquot) left the first game after three innings because of an injury, leaving junior Tiffany deBeaumont (Farmingdale, NY/Farmingdale) at the helm with the score tied 1-1. Kings Point’s Andrea Carey knocked in Liz Hagner for the game winning run in the fourth, before the Mariners scored two more for a 4-1 lead. Hagner also hit a double in the fifth to bring in the fifth and final run for Kings Point.
In game two, Merchant Marine took a 1-0 lead in the first off a Hagner single. Brittany Thornhill hit an RBI single in the fourth for the game deciding run and the score 2-0. Farmingdale’s Kristen Tong (Swanzey, NH/Monadnock Regional) put the Rams back in the game with an RBI single in the fifth, scoring Devan Weber (Huntington, NY/Huntington) to cut the Mariners lead to 3-1. There would be no scoring in the final two innings, giving Kings Point the 3-1 victory and another conference win.
The Rams will travel to Newburgh, NY on Monday, April 25th for a Skyline double-header against Mount Saint Mary starting at 1:00pm.
Six Student-Athletes at Farmingdale Receive Chancellor’s Scholar-Athlete Awards

The State University of New York’s Chancellor, Robert L. King, recently named six of Farmingdale State’s student-athletes as winners of the 2004-05 Chancellor’s Scholar-Athlete Awards. The Chancellor’s Scholar-Athlete Award was created to recognize academic excellence and outstanding athletic achievement. One student-athlete was chosen in each sport from one of four SUNY colleges, including Farmingdale State, Old Westbury, Purchase and Maritime. In addition to academic excellence, the student-athlete must have been named to any of the following: the All-Conference Team, All Tournament Team, MVP, etc., in order to be nominated for this award. This year’s winners from Farmingdale State were Reggie Routier (Indoor Track), Melissa Rudy (Volleyball), Patric Santiago (Golf), Anthony Scali (Baseball), Alberto Soberanes (Cross Country) and Devan Weber (Softball). The Chancellor will be honoring these recipients at The 2005 Scholar-Athlete Awards on Monday, April 25th at the Wyndham Hotel in East Syracuse, New York.
Sophomore Devan Weber (Huntington, NY/Huntington) was named Second Team All-Skyline for the 2004 season and will be looked upon this season for her leadership on the field and at-bat. Devan currently has a 3.0 GPA. She led the nation in 2004 in runs scored per game after scoring 41 times in 27 games. Devan finished the 2004 season leading the team in four categories, including a .434 batting average, 16 stolen bases, 21 walks and 36 hits. She provided outstanding defense throughout the season at her starting shortstop position.
Rams Softball Joins Division III National Rankings

As of the April 17th rankings for Division III Softball leaders, the Farmingdale State Rams are ranked ninth in the nation for scoring with 7.75 runs per game.
Individually, senior catcher/outfielder Kristen Tong (Swanzey, NH/Monadnock Regional) is currently third in runs batted in (RBI’s) with 1.67 per game. She is also ranked fourth in doubles with 0.58 per game. Kristen currently leads the team with a .462 batting average, 18 hits, seven doubles, two triples, two homeruns and a .897 slugging percentage.
Kristen Tong Named WIAC Player of the Week

Kristen Tong is this weeks softball WIAC Player of the Week. Kristen finished the Rams 4-0 week leading the team with a .636 batting average, a 1.455 slugging percentage, 11 RBI’s, seven hits, three triples and two homeruns from only 11 at bats.
Jaclyn Buckshaw Named Skyline Pitcher of the Week

Freshman Jaclyn Buckshaw (Oakdale, NY/Connetquot) was named Skyline Pitcher of the Week on April 11th. Jaclyn was impressive in her opening week for Farmingdale State University. In 13 innings of work, she allowed four hits and no runs while striking out 18 and walking just two. Buckshaw, who was 3-0 on the week, tossed the first perfect game in Farmingdale State history as the Rams earned a 12-0 win over Maritime.

Farmingdale, NY - Freshman pitcher Jaclyn Buckshaw (Oakdale, NY/Connetquot) pitched the first-ever perfect game in Farmingdale State school history in game one of a double-header against Maritime College (1-4, 0-4 Skyline). Buckshaw struck out eight in the 12-0 win, before the Rams took game two 13-5 to complete the sweep and improve to 4-0 overall, 4-0 in the Skyline. Also in game one, Farmingdale’s senior catcher Kristen Tong (Swanzey, NH/Monadnock Regional) hit the first-ever over-the-fence home run at Farmingdale’s field. Tong led the Rams with 5 RBI’s in game one.
Ashley Kenny (Huntington, NY/Huntington) pitched game two for the Rams, allowing only one earned run. Falon Taddeo (Oceanside, NY/Oceanside) led the team with three RBI’s, while Meghan Newell (Huntington, NY/Huntington) finished with two hits, 2 RBI’s and two runs scored. Devan Weber (Huntington, NY/Huntington) had three stolen bases on the day, along with three RBI’s.
The Rams host York College tomorrow in a double-header starting at 3:00pm.

The Rams (2-0) picked up their first two wins of the season against Old Westbury in double-header softball action on April 6th at Panther field in Old Westbury, NY. Freshman pitcher Jaclyn Buckshaw (Oakdale, NY/Connetquot) pitched a total of eight innings over the two games, striking out 10 batters, while allowing no earned runs and only four hits. Farmingdale junior shortstop Tiffany deBeaumont (Farmingdale, NY/Farmingdale) pitched the final two innings of game two and was awarded the save after retiring the final seven-of-eight batters.
Senior Kristen Tong (Swanzey, NH/Monadnock Regional) had six runs batted in off four hits for the Rams, including a three-run homerun in game one. Sophomore Gina Moscato (Hicskville, NY/Hicksville) finished with three RBI’s and two hits, while deBeaumont knocked in five runs on the day.
The Rams host Maritime College in a Skyline Conference double-header on Thursday, April 7th starting at 3:30 pm.
