Russell Sets School Record and Places Third at Atlantic Regionals

SELINSGROVE, PA | Farmingdale State senior Emily Russell (Southold, N.Y.) set the school record and placed third in the Heptathlon at the All-Atlantic Region Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Susquehanna University on Wednesday and Thursday. Russell tallied 4,296 points in the seven events and bested the previous record of 4,189, held by Leslie Reina since 1997. 

Russell placed top-5 in six out of seven events, including a victory in the Javelin with a toss of 32.93m, which now sits in second place in the FSC record book and just four feet from the all-time mark. She also tied for the top mark in the High Jump with a personal-best height of 1.55m and took third in both the shot put, with a toss of 10.13m, and the long jump, with a career-best 5.12m (7th all-time).

In the 100m Hurdles, Russell placed 14th and moved into seventh on the all-time list with a time of 16.93. She nearly cracked the top-10 record list with her times in the 200m (5th - 27.08) and 800m (4th - 2:33.70) as well. 

Russell's point total in the Heptathlon is 32nd on the National Women's Division III leaderboard this season.

Senior Alycia Haynes (Adams Center, N.Y.) also competed for the women and came in 32nd in the 1500m in 5:11.66. She will leave FSC ranked second all-time in the 1500m.

On the men's side, senior Matthew Calogianes (Deer Park, N.Y.), the school-record holder, ran the 3000m Steeplechase and came in 22nd place with a time of 9:57.23.

Senior Joseph Stocken VI (Miller Place, N.Y.) competed in both hurdles events and placed 28th in the 110m High Hurdles (16.59) and 16th in the 400m Hurdles (55.67). Stocken VI will leave FSC ranked fifth all-time for the 400m Hurdles.

Senior Rodney Jerome (Westbury, N.Y.) also competed in the 110m High Hurdles and came in 26th in 16.31.

Sophomore Robert Kalinowski (Farmingdale, N.Y.) competed in the 10-event Decathlon and finished in 11th place with 4,958 points.

He captured a victory in the Pole Vault with a personal-best height of 4.10m. Only one other competitor was able to clear a height of 3.90m. Kalinowski moved into seventh in program history with his height.

Kalinowski earned three top-5 finishes across the two-day event - 100m (11th - 12.21), 400m (11th - 56.56), 1500m (11th - 5:38.34), 110H (5th - 17.47), High Jump (12th - 1.57m), Long Jump (8th - 5.86m), Shot Put (10th - 9.47m), Discus (10th - 23.18m), Javelin (4th - 40.36m) and Pole Vault (1st - 4.10m).

Finally, freshman Daniel Bamfo (Lake Grove, N.Y.) recorded 17th place in the Triple Jump after a mark of 13.50m on his second attempt.
