Men's Tennis Advances to Skyline Championship

#3 Farmingdale State - 5, #2 Purchase College - 1


Purchase, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's tennis team (10-4) advanced to the Skyline Championship game with a 5-1 semifinal victory over #2 Purchase (9-3) on Thursday afternoon. The #3 Rams (10-4) will now face #1 Yeshiva (11-3), the defending Skyline Champions, on Sunday, April 26th at 3:00 p.m. at the Binghamton Racquet Club in Edgewater, N.J. for the Skyline Title and automatic bid to the 2015 Division III NCAA Men's Tennis Tournament.

After doubles play, Farmingdale State held a 3-0 lead. At 1st doubles, sophomore Chris Hunter (Melville, N.Y.) and junior Kevin Palacios (Glen Cove, N.Y.) took an 8-6 win over Riley Damerall and Dylan DeBiase. In the #2 spot, sophomore Tyler Danzy (Central Islip, N.Y.) and sophomore Marvin Beaubrun (Farmingdale, N.Y.) posted an 8-6 victory over Cedric Bluman and Joseph Troop. Seniors Aravind Mahalingam (Hyderabad, India) and Karuppiah Karuppiah (Trichy, India) won 8-3 over Chisei Tomita and Taimu Tomita at 3rd doubles.

In the singles matches, Danzy and freshman Daniel Kafka (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) scored the final two points needed to take the overall 5-1 win. Danzy shutout Dylan DeBiase at 2nd singles (6-0, 6-0), while Kafka defeated Taimu Tomita at #5 singles by a score of 6-0, 6-1.
