Rams Fall to Mount Saint Mary on Senior Day

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's soccer team played host to Skyline Conference opponent Mount Saint Mary this afternoon and fell, 2-0.

Before the start of the game, Jeff Valencia (Levittown, N.Y.), Robert Tucker (Oceanside, N.Y.), Tobi Ojuade (Rockville Centre, N.Y.), John Kender (Farmingdale, N.Y.), Luciano Staffa (Buenos Aires, Argentina), Enzo Jerez (Levittown, N.Y.), Leonardo Landeta (Franklin Square, N.Y.), Gerard Farrell (Floral Park, N.Y.) and Daniel Stern (Kings Park, N.Y.) were each honored for senior day.

In a scoreless first half, the Knights (8-6, 5-1) outshot the Rams 10-3 overall and 6-1 in attempts on goal but were unable to capitalize. Stern stopped six shots in the half for FSC (6-5, 3-4) to secure the 0-0 tie heading into the break.

With 32:17 remaining, Mount Saint Mary sophomore defender Jaret Whitford (Melrose, N.Y.) advanced the ball downfield on a free kick after a Farmingdale State foul, junior midfielder Fred Stark (Hollis, N.Y.) headed a pass in front to junior forward Joey Dolan (New Paltz, N.Y.) for the header goal.

The Knights extended the advantage to 2-0 with 26:26 left on the clock on a Matt Fuge (Avon, Conn.) goal after he secured the rebound in front off a shot by Stark.

Neither team would score over the remainder of the contest as MSMC earned the 2-0 road victory.

Stern finished the day with seven saves, while freshman Tyler Rapp (East Berne, N.Y.) recorded one save for MSMC.

Farmingdale State next will travel to Mount Saint Vincent for a conference game on Tuesday, October 17th at 3:30 p.m.
