New York, N.Y. - In the 2011 Skyline Pre-Season Men’s Soccer Coaches’ Poll, SUNY Maritime has earned the top spot, edging out Farmingdale State College by just one point. The Rams are coming off a 9-10-1 season and a #2 seed in the 2010 Playoffs, but fell in the semifinal round to Old Westbury.

The Privateers won the Skyline title last year and look to repeat as the Conference champions. Last year’s Coach of the Year Andrew McCarthy feels confident that his team with succeed with the leadership of his 2010 All-Skyline standout, Jason Tursi. But in their way stands a strong Farmingdale State squad which wants to do everything in their power to not let this happen. The Rams only graduated four players last year and senior defender Michael Curatolo looks to lead them from the back line.

Finishing up the top five in the Coaches’ Poll, Old Westbury, St. Joseph’s (L.I.), and The Sage Colleges are all looking to have solid seasons as well.

Here is the complete list of the rankings from the Coaches Poll...

  1. Maritime  (5) - 73 pts.
  2. Farmingdale State (2) - 72
  3. Old Westbury (2) - 60
