Rams Upset Kean, 20-16

Farmingdale, N.Y. – The Farmingdale State men's lacrosse team (4-10, 4-5 skyline) won a seesaw game against Kean (11-4, 5-3 Skyline) by the score of 20-16 in the final regular-season home game for the Rams in Farmingdale, N.Y.

Farmingdale jump out to a 5-3 lead by the end of the first period. The Cougars fought back, gaining the lead in the second period, for a score of 9-6 at half.

The Rams came out on fire in the third period, scoring six straight goals in the first six minutes to make it 12-9. Kean added a few goals late in the period to cut the Farmingdale lead to one, 13-12. The Cougars tied the game at 13 with 12:40 remaining in regulation but the Rams took the lead back within two minutes and held it throughout the rest of the game.

Senior midfielder Ryan LaFlare (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst), playing in his last regular-season home game, added seven goals to his career goal record at Farmingdale State, increasing it to 124. LaFlare added two assists and a game-high nine ground balls. Sophomore attack Kevin Sharkey (Bellmore, N.Y./Mepham) contributed three goals and a team-high three assists. Senior goalkeeper Kevin Winters (Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin) had 17 saves for the victory.

Kean's offense was lead by senior attack Steve Gill (Patchogue, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford), who tallied four goals, two ground balls and a caused turnover. Freshman attack Scott Leathem (Fair Lawn, N.J./Fair Lawn) added a game-high four assists. Junior goalkeeper Dave Nichols (Florham Park, N.J./Hanover Park) had eight saves in defeat.

The Rams end their regular season on a positive note with the win, but fall short of the four-team Skyline Conference Tournament with a conference record of 4-5.
