DOVER, Del. - Farmingdale State men's lacrosse opened up the season today against non-conference opponent Wesley College at Wolverine Stadium in Dover, Delaware. Wesley junior Justin Thompson (Pasadena, Md./Northeast) scored 6 goals and added one assist, as Wesley (1-0) defeated the Rams (0-1) by a final score of 19-8.
Wesley jumped out to an early 3-1 lead after the first quarter and went into halftime up 9-3. Farmingdale answered early in the third quarter as senior Ryan LaFlare (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) scored to make it 9-4. Wesley responded with another tally before LaFlare added another in the third with 9:40 remaining, cutting the deficit to 10-5. Six unanswered goals by the Wolverines brought the lead up to 11 and they would hold the Rams to just three more goals in the final period. LaFlare led Farmingdale State with four goals.
The Wolverines held a 48-18 advantage in shots and junior goalkeeper Jim McCleaft (Brookhaven, Pa./Sun Valley) had eight saves in goal for Wesley. Freshman Dan Skeels (Roseland, N.J./West Essex) had an impressive rookie debut scoring four goals, while fellow newcomers Nick Pisacono (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) added two goals and four assists and Luke Moeller (St. Leonard, N.Y./Calverton) added two goals in the win.
