Men's Lacrosse End of Season Report

The men’s lacrosse team finished the 2005 season with a record of 9-7, making an appearance in the ECAC Metro Tournament for the second consecutive year. The team defeated Richard Stockton in the ECAC Semifinal round, but fell to #1 seed Montclair State in the Finals. Throughout the year, the attack was led by freshman Gianluca Carrabs, sophomore Joe Meola and junior Ryan LaFlare. Meola is currently ranked 19th in Division III for assists per game. Sophomore Rob Hattenrath was a defensive standout for Farmingdale, leading the team in caused turnovers. Senior Tony Sheridan, freshman Chris Hardgrove and junior Kevin Winters split the duties in net this season.

Red Hawks senior attack Kevin Gondres tallied six points and was named the Most Valuable Player as top-seeded Montclair State captured its third straight Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III Metro Men’s Lacrosse championship with a 13-8 win over third-seeded Farmingdale State at Sprague Field on Sunday afternoon.
Gondres scored four times and assisted on two others as the Red Hawks closed out their 2005 season by winning their fifth ECAC title overall. Bryan Klimchak had three goals and two assists for MSU. Joe Meola had three goals and an assist for Farmingdale (9-7), which fell to Montclair for the second time this season. MSU posted an 11-10 win in Long Island on March 23.
Montclair State led 7-3 at halftime, however, Farmingdale scored the first three goals of the second half the final one by Gianluca Carrabs with 10:08 to play as the Rams trimmed the lead to 7-6. Gondres answered with a goal with 5:55 left in the period and recorded the hat trick as he scored unassisted with 3:41 to play as MSU led 9-6 heading into the final period.
Mike Cullen got a goal back for Farmingdale to start the fourth quarter cutting the lead to 9-7, but Gondres again scored two straight, the first coming on a man-advantage midway through the period. The second goal occurred with 5:37 left as MSU was down two players. Defenseman Allister Edwards launched a long pass from the defensive backline that hit the turf and bounced high into the air in the attack zone. Farmingdale goalkeeper Tony Sheridan and Gondres both collided but Gondres kept his balance, picked up the loose ball and fired into the open net making the score, 11-7 with 5:37 remaining.
Brian Fischer had two goals, two assists and nine face off wins for Montclair State, which also got a goal and two assists from Dave Armstrong . Goalkeeper Thomas Bowers made 22 saves for the Red Hawks. Gondres’ four goals gave him 103 for his career, making him the first player in program history to record over 100 goals and 100 assists in a career (103 gls, 115 asts.)
Sheridan finished with 19 saves for the Rams, who received a two-goal effort from Cullen.

The men's lacrosse team improved to 9-6 overall and advanced to the ECAC Metro Finals after defeating Richard Stockton 14-10 on Friday afternoon. Farmingdale reeled off six consecutive goals to turn a 3-2 deficit into an 8-3 lead. Stockton responded with four straight tallies to pull within 8-7, but the Rams went on a four-goal spurt for an insurmountable 12-7 cushion. Farmingdale senior goalkeeper Anthony Sheridan (Merrick, NY/Mepham) registered 21 saves in the game.
Joe Meola (Rocky Point, NY/Rocky Point) led Farmingdale with four goals and one assist. Gianluca Carrabs (Glen Cove, NY/Glen Cove) and Ryan LaFlare (Lindenhurst, NY/ Lindenhurst) each contributed three goals and two assists. Jeremy Goohs (Merrick, NY/Calhoun) scored the game-winner in the fourth period with 13:42 remaining in the game. The Rams capitalized on 6-of-8 power play opportunities.
Jeff Martin (Lincoln Park, NJ/Boonton) led the Ospreys with four goals and Anthony Severino (Edison, NJ/St. Joseph) added three goals and one assist. Ryan Pettit (Medford Lakes, NJ/Shawnee) tallied one goal and two assists.
Stockton finished with a season record of 8-6. The Rams now travel to face top-seeded Montclair State on Sunday at 1pm for the ECAC Metro Championship.
Men's Lacrosse Receives Bid to ECAC's

The men's lacrosse team has received a bid to the ECAC Metro Region Championships. They are seeded #3 for the tournament and will face the #2 seed, Richard Stockton, this Friday, May 13th at 3:00pm. The winner of that game will play at Montclair State for the championship on Sunday, May 15th.

Farmingdale State improved to 8-6 overall with a 14-8 win over Kean University (7-8) in their final home game of the regular season. The Rams took a 9-5 lead into halftime with three points each from freshmen Gianluca Carrabs (Glen Cove, NY/Glen Cove) and Michael Wood (Merrick, NY/Bellmore JFK), as well as sophomore Joe Meola (Rocky Point, NY/Rocky Point). Meola and Patrick Eustache (Queens, NY/Elmont) both led Farmingdale with three goals, while Wood, Ryan LaFlare (Lindenhurst, NY/Lindenhurst) and Mike Cullen (Merrick, NY/Calhoun) scored two goals each. Chris Hardgrove (Farmingdale, NY/Farmingdale) was awarded the win making 7 saves for the Rams, before Kevin Winters (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) came in to stop 4 shots in the final period.
Kean University junior Tom Rossi (Oakland, NJ/Indian Hills) led with four goals, while sophomore Steve Gill (Patchogue, NY/Patchogue-Medford) tallied three goals for the Cougars. Will Lillard (Madison, NJ/Vermont Academy) dished out three assists. Goalkeeper Dave Nichols (Florham Park, NJ/Hanover Park) made 13 stops in net.

Farmingdale State broke open a 4-2 lead with three straight goals, two by freshman attackman Gianluca Carrabs (Glen Cove, NY) to lead the Rams to a convincing 15-4 win over Vassar in men's lacrosse action Wednesday afternoon at Prentiss Field.
With the victory, Farmingdale improves to 7-6 while Vassar falls to 1-11.
Vassar scored first on a goal freshman attackman Eric Schrager (Santa Maria,CA) off an assist from sophomore midfielder Michael Littlefield (Floral Park, NY). After that first tally by the Brewers, the Rams took control, building a 9-3 halftime lead on goals by junior Mike Cullen (Merrick, NY), junior Patrick Eustache (Queens, NY), sophomore Ryan LaFlare (Lindenhurst, NY), junior Jeremy Goohs (Merrick, NY), junior Tom Stanley (Baldwin, NY) and sophomore Joe Meola (Rocky Point, NY).
The Rams added six goals after intermission, two in the third and four in the fourth, led by Eustache, LaFlare, Goohs and Cullen, all of whom scored their second goals of the game.
Vassar got an unassisted goal from Dave Weymouth in the second period and one from freshman midfielder Joe Mueller (Raleigh, NC) in the third period. Schrager got his second goal, off an another assist from Littlefield, to end Vassar's scoring in the fourth period.
Vassar sophomore goalie Will Widen (Glen Ridge, NJ) made 18 saves, facing 33 shots. Farmingdale freshman goalie Chris Hardgrove (Farmingdale, NY) made eight saves and was relieved by fellow freshman Kevin Winters (Baldwin, NY) who also made four saves after entering the game at the start of the fourth quarter.
Farmingdale State had 25 ground balls and Vassar had 32.
Farmingdale Drops Non-Conference Game to Wesley

Dover, DE - Story by Wesley SID - Wesley College (7-5) defeated Farmingdale State University (5-6) by a final score of 11-5 in a non-conference men's lacrosse game on Saturday night. The game was forfeited with 9:26 remaining in the 4th quarter due to weather conditions for an official game.
The Wolverines jumped on top early 3-0 on goals by Justin Thompson (Pasadena, MD/Northeast), Chris Miller (Albany, NY/Colonie Central) and Mark Skakle (Columbia, MD/Long Reach). The Rams would close the gap to 3-2 on 2 unanswered goals by Matt Ramacca (Baldwin, NY/Nassau) and Jeremy Goohs (Merrick, NY/Calhoun). The Wolverines went into halftime up 7-4, aided by a goal by Thompson with 30 seconds remaining in the half.
Wesley jumped out to a 9-4 lead in the second half on a goal by Rob Mason (Lewes, DE/Salisbury Baptist Academy) with 5:10 remaining. The Wolverines then held a 10-5 lead, before Rick Shafer scored with 13:00 remaining in the game for the final tally before the game was was forfeited. Thompson totaled 4 goals and 1 assist, while Skakle and Dean Evans (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) had a pair of goals apiece.

The Farmingdale State men’s lacrosse team improved to 3-4 overall after a 19-6 victory over Division II Dominican College in Blauvelt, NY on Wednesday afternoon. Freshman Gianluca Carrabs (Glen Cove, NY/Glen Cove) and junior transfer Dennis Forgit (Lindenhurst, NY/Lindenhurst) scored 3 goals a piece to lead the Rams attack. Sophomore Joe Meola (Rocky Point, NY/Rocky Point) added 4 assists and 1 goal for the Rams, with four other players adding 2 goals a piece.
Senior goalkeeper Tony Sheridan (Merrick, NY/Mepham) was awarded the win after 4 saves in the first two periods. Junior Kevin Winters (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) tallied 4 saves in the third period and freshman Chris Hardgrove (Farmingdale, NY/Farmingdale) stopped 7 shots in the final period of play.
For Dominican, Sal Betty (Suffern, NY) tallied 2 assists and a goal. Goalkeepers Mike Delillo (Yorktown, NY) and Dan Stiso (Suffern, NY) combined for 10 saves on the day.
The Rams now travel to Centenary College in Hackettstown, NJ for a game on Saturday, April 9th at 1:00pm, before hosting Manhattanville College on Sunday, April 10th at 1:00pm.

Richard Stockton improved to 5-0 overall with a 16-6 win over Farmingdale State (2-4) in a men’s lacrosse game today in Farmingdale, NY. Anthony Severino (Edison, NJ/St. Joseph (Metuchen)) led the scoring with three goals for the Ospreys, while Kyle Witty (Montville, NJ/Montville) made 14 saves in goal for the win. The Rams led 3-2 after the first period, before Stockton scored seven goals in the second to lead 9-4 at halftime.
Joe Meola (Rocky Point, NY/Rocky Point), Jeremy Goohs (Merrick, NY/Calhoun) and Gianluca Carrabs (Glen Cove, NY/Glen Cove) each scored two goals for the Rams. Farmingdale State goalie Anthony Sheridan (Merrick, NY/Mepham) made 19 saves in defeat.
Stockton’s Ryan Pettit (Medford Lakes, NJ/Shawnee), Ryota Ishikawa (Princeton, NJ/S. Brunswick) and Austin Harrison (Basking Ridge, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) both scored two goals. Ryan McQuilken (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) finished with 11 ground balls.
The Rams host Oswego State next on Saturday, April 2nd at 1:00 p.m.
Joe Meola Named ECAC Metro Player of the Week

Sophomore attackman Joe Meola (Rocky Point, NY/Rocky Point) was named ECAC Metro Player of the Week on March 23, 2005. In Farmingdale’s only game of the week Meola chipped in with 10 points. He finished the game with two goals and eight assists. The eight assists broke a previous school record of five assists in Division III play.

Senior Sean Pekarsky (Clifton, NJ/Clifton) scored the game-winner with 46 seconds remaining to give Montclair State an 11-10 victory in a non-conference men’s lacrosse game. Pekarsky finished with a hat trick, while John Della Pesca (Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) added two goals for the Red Hawks. Montclair goalkeeper Tim Condron (West Paterson, NJ/St. Joseph’s) had 11 saves in the win, while Farmingdale State goalie Tony Sheridan (Merrick, NY/Mepham) had 11 saves in defeat.
Farmingdale’s Matt Ramacca (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) and Gianluca Carrabs (Glen Cove, NY/Glen Cove) both scored three goals. Ryan LaFlare (Lindenhurst, NY/Lindenhurst) finished with two goals.
Farmingdale will return to action on March 28th when they host Mt. St. Vincent in a 3:30 pm game.

Farmingdale sophomore Joe Meola (Rocky Point, NY/Rocky Point) set a new school record with eight assists and also added two goals. Other two goal scorers for the Rams were Ryan LaFlare (Lindenhurst, NY/Lindenhurst), Mike Cullen (Merrick, NY/Calhoun) and Patrick Eustache (Queens, NY/Elmont). Senior captain Tony Sheridan (Merrick, NY/Mepham) picked up the win in net making 13 saves for Farmingdale, while junior Kevin Winters (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) took over in the fourth period making 9 saves.
P.J. Matthews (Baltimore, MD/Patterson) and Charles Caughman (Baltimore, MD/Patterson) led Mount Ida with three goals each. Matt Ramieor (Arlington, MA/Arlington) finished with three assists and one goal for the Mustangs.

Men's Lacrosse Overpowered by Utica College

Patrick Eustache (Queens, NY/Elmont) led the scoring for the Rams (1-2) with two goals in a 25-8 loss to Utica College (2-0) on Sunday, March 6th. Farmingdale was outshot 53-33 as Utica overpowered the Rams the entire game. Junior goaltender Sean Ryan (Webster, NY/Webster) picked up the win with nine saves for Utica.
Other single-goal scorers for the Rams were Gianluca Carrabs, Ryan LaFlare, Mike Cullen, Joe Meola, Tom Stanley and Dennis Forgit. Assists were tallied by Carrabs, Eustache and Mike Wood.
Matt Donaldson (Dexter, NY/General Brown) finished with four goals for Utica, while Andrew Singer (Glenville, NY/Scotia-Glenville) and Jacob Beck (Amsterdam, NY/Amsterdam) both netted three goals each. Nate Jobson (Dexter, NY/General Brown) and Singer dished out three assists on the day.
Farmingdale State will start off a six-game homestand against Richard Stockton in their first home game of the season on Saturday, March 12th at 2:30pm.

Farmingdale State fell to 1-1 overall after a 14-9 loss to Maritime College on Friday, March 4th. The Rams trailed 7-2 at the half and could not start a comeback as Maritime added seven more goals over the final two periods.
Junior Mike Cullen (Merrick, NY/Calhoun) led the Rams attack with three goals, while Matt Ramacca (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) scored two goals. Mike Wood (Merrick, NY/Bellmore), Gianluca Carrabs (Glen Cove, NY/Glen Cove), Joe Meola (Rocky Point, NY/Rocky Point) and Dennis Forgit (Lindenhurst, NY/Lindenhurst) each chipped in a goal for Farmingdale in defeat.
Davis Kozak (South Windsor, CT/South Windsor) led the scoring for the Privateers with four goals, while Donald Toby (Oceanside, NY/Oceanside) finished with three goals and three assists.

Farmingdale State picked up their first win of the season after Matt Ramacca (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) scored the game-winner for the Rams with 3:23 left in overtime.
Farmingdale took a quick 3-0 lead in the first period, but found themselves even at halftime 5-5. Marymount’s Brandon Thompson scored his fourth goal of the game to put MU up by one, 7-6, with 2 minutes remaining before Farmingdale senior Matt Lott (Hauppauge, NY/Hauppauge) scored at 00:56 off a feed from Joe Meola (Rocky Point, NY/Rocky Point) to send the game into overtime. Tony Sheridan (Merrick, NY/Mepham) made 24 saves in net for the Rams. Lott led the attack with two goals.
Goal scoring for Farmingdale went as follows: Gianluca Carrabs, Mike Cullen, Jeremy Goohs, James Donaldson, Matt Lott, Ryan LaFlare, Matt Lott, Matt Ramacca.

Men’s Lacrosse Season Preview

The Farmingdale State men’s lacrosse team will open the 2005 season at Marymount University in Virginia on February 26, 2005. Steve D’Argenio enters his seventh season as head coach with help from Mike Cardello (Hartwick ’04), John Vaeth (Farmingdale) and Eric LeFranc. The Rams return only nine players from last year’s roster, but added many talented transfers and eleven freshmen to the roster. Last year, Farmingdale finished 8-6 overall with their second ECAC bid in the past four years.
The offense will look to senior captain Matt Lott (Hauppauge, NY/Hauppauge) and sophomore Joe Meola (Rocky Point, NY/Rocky Point) on attack. Meola finished the 2004 season second on the team in scoring with 28 goals and nine assists. Sophomore captain Ryan LaFlare (Lindenhurst, NY/Lindenhurst) finished fourth in scoring last season, and will once again be working the face-offs for the Rams.
On the defensive end, senior goalie and captain Tony Sheridan (Merrick, NY/Mepham) is back in net for Farmingdale. Tony finished fourth in the nation with a .679 save percentage last year. Senior captain Scott Rothbaum (Merrick, NY/Calhoun) will join Sheridan on defense and look to improve on the Rams goals against average of 9.87.
