Rams Outlast York in Albright Consolation Game

Reading, Pa. – The Farmingdale State men's basketball team sank 34 shots at the free throw line to outlast York, 87-75, in the consolation game of the Albright College Holiday Tournament on Monday, December 30th. The Rams improved to 6-4 overall with the victory, while the Spartans fell to 1-9.

Farmingdale senior guard Jonathan Annan (Staten Island, N.Y.) scored the first nine points of the game, while York didn't get on the board until the 15:29 mark. The Rams continued to keep the Spartans at arms length, using an 8-1 run to lead by as much as 15 before settling at the 41-28 halftime advantage.

York opened the second half with a 16-5 run to cut the deficit to 46-44, while the Rams responded with a 14-6 run to grab a double-digit lead, 64-54, with 8:26 left in the game. Farmingdale State led by as much as 16 points in the second, with York only getting as close as six points as they went on for the 12-point victory.

The Rams had five in double figures led by Annan with 16 points, shooting 7-for-13 from the floor with four assists and three steals. Senior guard Timothy Johnson (Queens, N.Y.) added 15 points and three assists. Senior center Donald Lawes (Queens, N.Y.) tallied 14 points, eight rebounds and six blocked shots. Junior guard Justin Bailey (Jamaica, N.Y.) and senior forward Curtis Williams (Stony Brook, N.Y.) each added 10 points, while Williams also pulled in seven rebounds.

For York, seniors Mike Mathews (Newark, Del.) and Matt McNeely (Bel Air, Md.) led the Spartans with 19 points each. Freshman Ryan Beaver (Harrisburg, Pa.) added 11 points. Freshman guard Joey Feinberg (New City, N.Y.) dished out a career-high eight assists.

Farmingdale State will continue play in 2014 as they host NYU-Poly in a Rams basketball doubleheader. The men are slated to tip-off at 3:00 p.m., while the women host Medgar Evers at 1:00 p.m.
