Farmingdale State - 59, Yeshiva University - 45
Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's basketball team ended their three game losing streak with a 59-45 conference win over Yeshiva University this evening in Farmingdale, N.Y. The Rams improved to 5-3 overall and 2-1 in Skyline play, while the Maccabees fell to 3-7, 2-4.
Leading 20-17 late in the first half, back-to-back layups by Samson Lawal (Queens, N.Y.) and Terence Henderson (Bronx, N.Y.) put Farmingdale State ahead by seven. After Yeshiva cut the deficit to four, 24-20, with 2:04 remaining, the Rams closed the half on a 5-2 run and took a 29-22 lead into the break. In a low scoring first half, Yeshiva was held in 23% shooting, including 2-for-9 from 3-point range.
Farmingdale State opened the second half on a 12-4 run to take their largest lead of the game, 41-26, with 15:24 left to play.
The Maccabees cut the Rams lead to 47-40 after a pair of free-throw's by Yisrael Feld (Teaneck, N.J.) and a Shelby Rosenberg (Woodmore, N.Y.) jumper with 6:59 remaining. Henderson answered with two consecutive layups to quickly bring Farmingdale State's advantage back to 11.
The Rams held on and scored the games final six points as they earned the 59-45 victory.
Henderson scored 17 points on 8-of-14 shooting and added eight rebounds, while senior center Donald Lawes (Queens, N.Y.) scored 10 points and had a game-high five blocks.
Yeshiva was led by Benjy Ritholtz (West Hempstead, N.Y.) who scored 17 points.
The Rams next will face the University of Pittsburgh-Bradford at the Albright Tournament on Sunday, December 29th at 2:00 p.m.
