Balanced Offense Leads Purchase Past Rams

Purchase, N.Y. - Purchase had five players score in double-digits as the Panthers earned an 84-65 victory over the Rams on Sunday afternoon. Purchase improved to 17-5 overall and 11-4 in the conference, while Farmingdale State dropped to 17-6, 13-3.

Trailing 31-24 with midway through the first half, a 7-2 Rams run over the next 1:34 cut the deficit to two, 33-31. Farmingdale State tied the game at 37-37 before junior guard Justin Person (Greenburgh, N.Y.) hit a pair of free-throw's and a jump shot to close the half and give Purchase a 41-37 advantage at the break. Senior guard Ryan Davis (Queens, N.Y.) had a game-high 13 points in the first half for Farmingdale State.

The Panthers opened the second half on a 21-6 run to extend their lead to 62-43 with 12:07 left to play. The Rams would close within 14 four times, but could not cut the deficit to single digits and fell 84-65.

Davis had a team-leading 17 points, while senior forward AJ Matthews (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored 16 points, had 14 rebounds and four blocks for Farmingdale State.

Person led the way for Purchase with 19 points and seven assists, while junior guard Andre Nixon (Harlem, N.Y.) and sophomore center Joel Neri (Port Chester, N.Y.) each tallied 15 points.

The Rams next will host Yeshiva in a Skyline Conference game on Tuesday, February 11th at 8:00 p.m.
