Farmingdale State - 65, St. Joseph's - 59


Patchogue, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's basketball team earned a 65-59 road win at St. Joseph's last night. The Rams now hold a 10-4 overall record and are 6-1 in the Skyline, while St. Joe's dropped to 4-10, 2-5.

The Rams held an early 23-11 lead, before a 12-0 Golden Eagles run evened the score at 23-23 with 5:34 left in the first half. Farmingdale State answered with a 7-0 run capped off by a Curtis Williams (Stony Brook, N.Y.) 3-pointer to regain the lead, 30-23. Farmingdale State went into halftime with a 32-28 advantage.

Tied 42-42 with 12:13 left on the clock, a P.J. Page (Copiague, N.Y.) jumper and Christian Nunez (White Plains, N.Y.) three point play, gave the Rams a five point edge.

St. Joe's would pull within one, 56-55, before a Ryan Davis (Queens, N.Y.) 3-pointer put Farmingdale State ahead 59-55 with 2:58 remaining. A 3-point basket by Golden Eagles junior forward Cody Lohsen (Centereach, N.Y.) again cut the deficit to one, but five straight Rams points sealed the road victory.

Farmingdale State was led by senior forward Leo Esonwune (Lagos, Nigeria) who had a team-high 14 points and seven rebounds. Senior forward AJ Matthews (Brooklyn, N.Y.) recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 boards.

Lohsen led all scorers for St. Joe's with 18 points and added eight rebounds, while sophomore guard Brady Colucci (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) scored 17 points.

The Rams next will host Mount Saint Vincent in a conference game on Saturday, January 19th at 3:00 p.m.
