St. Joseph's-Long Island Earns Conference Sweep Over FSC

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State baseball team lost a pair of home games to St. Joseph's-Long Island this afternoon. The Rams fell 4-1 in the first game before dropping the second, 4-2.

Game one remained scoreless into the fourth inning when Golden Eagles' (8-5, 7-4 Skyline) sophomore designated hitter Ryan Decoursey (Centereach, N.Y.) hit an RBI double to go in front, 1-0.

FSC (8-5, 8-3 Skyline) answered in the fifth to tie the score at 1-1. Freshman designated hitter Peter Minneci (Shoreham, N.Y.) hit a double to center before freshman Peter Del Gais (Wantagh, N.Y.) entered to pinch-run. Two batters later, Del Gais scored on a wild pitch.

With runners on second and third in the top of the sixth, senior left fielder James McAleavey (Shirley, N.Y.) hit a two-run single to center to give SJC-LI a two-run lead.

St. Joseph's-Long Island added an unearned run in the seventh as they went on for the 4-1 victory.

Minneci, sophomore right fielder Bobby Pollock (Manorville, N.Y.) and freshman third baseman Nolan White (Miller Place, N.Y.) had one hit apiece in the loss.

McAleavy had one hit with two RBI's, while Decoursey had two hits, one RBI and one run scored.

Golden Eagles junior pitcher Kevin Czeczotka (East Northport, N.Y.) (W, 2-0) threw a complete game, striking out eight and allowing only three hits in the win.

In game two, the Golden Eagles used three first-inning hits, including two doubles to jump out to a 2-0 lead.

In the bottom of the second, Rams' senior left fielder Vincent Napolitano (Bellmore, N.Y.) led off with a double and was driven in two batters later on a White double to close within one, 2-1.

The game remained 2-1 until the top of the fifth when a pair of FSC errors led to two SJC-LI runs as they took a 4-1 advantage.

Still down 4-1, Farmingdale State used a double from White to leadoff the bottom of the eighth. Senior pitcher Elliot Robles (Manorville, N.Y.) entered for SJC-LI and set the Rams down in order to strand the runner at second.

The Rams added a run in the ninth on a Minneci RBI single, but St. Joseph's-Long Island senior Anthony Cinquemani (West Islip, N.Y.) (Sv, 2) picked up the save as the Golden Eagles went on for the 4-2 win.

White finished 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI and Napolitano tallied one hit and one run scored.

Senior pitcher Joe Marino (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) (L, 0-1) tossed 115 pitches across eight innings in the loss.

Sophomore center fielder Paul Gugliuzzo (Kings Park, N.Y.) recorded two hits, two runs and a double, while sophomore right fielder Phillip Krpata (Farmingdale, N.Y.) had one hit, two runs scored and one RBI.

Senior Daniel Deckert (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) (W, 2-3) earned the win after throwing seven-innings of one-run ball.

The Rams will finish their four-game series with a doubleheader at St. Joseph's-LI tomorrow at 11:00 a.m.
