Baseball Defeats Maritime College in Season Opener

The Farmingdale State (1-0) baseball team defeated Skyline opponent Maritime College (1-1) 10-3 on Saturday afternoon, March 19th in their season opening game. The Rams total of 16 walks was the deciding factor in the game. Farmingdale led 3-0 going into the fourth inning before Maritime scored three runs off two extra base hits to tie it up at 3-3. Joe Bono (Selden, NY/St. Anthony’s) picked up the win for the Rams, while Keith Gottschalk (Washingtonville, NY/Washingtonville) came in as the reliever and pitched four hitless innings for the save with seven strikeouts and only two walks.

Farmingdale State senior captain Anthony Scali (Massapequa Park, NY) went 2-for-4 with two runs batted in, four stolen bases and two runs scored. Sophomore Steve Corvetti (Rockville Centre, NY/Southside) had the Rams only extra base hit with a triple in the third inning. He finished 1-for-4 with 2 RBI’s and one run scored. Freshman Luis Feliciano (Bronx, NY/Park West) had four walks and two stolen bases.

Maritime’s Peter McGrath led the team with 2 RBI’s and one run scored, hitting a 2 RBI double in the fourth inning and scoring off a single by Chris Stanco.

Farmingdale State will host Kean University in their home opener on Tuesday, March 22nd at 3:00pm.
