FSC Earns Pair of Victories in Skyline Tri-Match

Game 2: Farmingdale State - 3, Maritime - 0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-21)


Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's volleyball team improved to 17-7 overall and 7-0 in the Skyline Conference after posting a pair of 3-0 victories against Merchant Marine and Maritime in a home tri-match this afternoon. FSC has now extended their winning streak to 10 games.

In the first match versus Merchant Marine (13-7, 6-2), the Rams opened with a 25-17 first set win and followed with 25-11 and 25-23 victories in the second and third sets, respectively.

Sophomore setter Julia Hande (Islip, N.Y.) recorded a team-high 10 kills to go along with 16 assists and five digs, while junior outside Annie Cosgrave (Brightwaters, N.Y.) registered eight kills, eight digs and a match-high four service aces. Senior middle blocker Maia Cadle-Hinton (Huntington, N.Y.) had seven kills and sophomore middle blocker Kelsey Voiklis (Commack, N.Y.) added five kills and three solo blocks for the Rams.

The Mariners were led by junior outside Kate Lefler (Norman, Okla.) who tallied a match-high 12 kills and senior outside Dominique Pope (Silver Spring, Md.) who had nine kills and eight digs. Sophomore setter Kyleigh Kappas (Parker, Colo.) pitched in with a match-leading 27 assists.

In FSC's second match of the day against Maritime (10-15, 4-6), the Rams carded another straight set victory by scores of 25-18, 25-18 and 25-21.

Hande led the way for the Rams with a match-high 16 kills, which is only one shy of her season-high and added 10 assists and seven digs. Cosgrave and Voiklis each totaled nine kills, while junior setter Lauren Anne Strezenec (Merrick, N.Y.) added 20 assists, seven digs and three aces in the win.

For the Privateers, junior middle blocker Meredith Hayes (Houston, Texas) and senior outside Shannon Brady (Bayport, N.Y.) recorded 11 and nine kills, respectively. Freshman setter Erika Kirchner (Meadowmere, N.Y.) finished the day with a match-high 23 assists. 

The other game of the tri-match featuring Maritime and Merchant Marine was won by the Mariners, 3-0.

Farmingdale State next hosts conference opponent Mount Saint Vincent on Thursday, October 26th at 7:00 p.m. for senior night.
