Early Goal Leads Salisbury to Win Over FSC

Salisbury, Md. - The Farmingdale State women's soccer team traveled to Salisbury University for their 2022 season opener on Thursday afternoon and fell, 1-0.

The Sea Gulls (1-0) came out quickly as they registered a trio of shots in the first 10:37 of play, each of which were saved by FSC (0-1) sophomore goalkeeper Chloe Kensell (Monroe, N.Y.).

Salisbury senior forward Kyla Holt (Westminster, Md.) scored the lone goal of the game just over two minutes later off the pass from Autumn Dougherty (Bel Air, Md.).

Each team attempted four shots over the remainder of the half. Rams freshman forward Alyse Rivera (Manhattan, N.Y.) sent a pair of shots on goal, but was turned away by Sea Gulls netminder Riley Pinato (Earleville, Md.).

In the second half, Salisbury outshot FSC, 15-2, and held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks. 

Kensell stopped seven shots in the final 45 minutes and finished with a career-high 10 saves.

Rivera and junior forward Michaela Rapisarda (Deer Park, N.Y.) had two shots on goal apiece in the loss.

Farmingdale State next will travel to play Rowan in a non-conference game on Sunday, September 4th at 1:00 p.m.
