Farmingdale State - 2, Lynchburg - 1
Salem, Va. - The Farmingdale State women's soccer team opened their 2021 campaign with a 2-1 victory over Lynchburg on Saturday afternoon in Salem, Virginia. With the game knotted at 1-1, Rams' freshman forward Francesca Robiglio (West Islip, N.Y.) scored the game-winner in the 59th minute.
The Hornets (0-1) started quickly as senior midfielder Emily Santana (Norfolk, Va.) netted the pass from freshman Sydney Dombrovskis (Ruckersville, Va.) just 1:56 in to take an early 1-0 advantage.
FSC (1-0) freshman forward Jazzmin Terrell (West Babylon, N.Y.) responded with an unassisted goal less than five minutes later to tie the score at 1-1.
Both teams combined for just one shot over the remainder of the half as the game headed into the break, 1-1.
At the 58:57 mark in the second half, Robiglio netted the eventual game-winning goal, unassisted, to put the Rams on top 2-1.
Over the next 17:03, Lynchburg attempted four shots, including two on goal, which were saved by Farmingdale State sophomore goalkeeper Lindsey Jolly (Massapequa, N.Y.).
The Rams controlled play over the final 14:40, holding the Hornets without a shot, as they went on for the season-opening 2-1 victory.
