FSC Women's Basketball Cruises Past Old Westbury

Farmingdale State - 74, Old Westbury - 48


Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's basketball team played conference opponent Old Westbury this evening and cruised to a 74-48 victory. FSC outscored OW, 45-17, in the first half en route to the win. The Rams improved to 6-4 in Skyline play, while the Panthers fell to 3-6.

Over the first 3:10 of the game, Farmingdale State (8-5) freshman forward Samantha Muller (North Babylon, N.Y.) scored nine straight points.

After a layup by Old Westbury (4-7), junior guard Anna Zaborowska (East Patchogue, N.Y.) hit a 3-pointer to put the Rams ahead by 10.

Leading 12-4 with 5:07 to play in the first quarter, FSC freshman forward Layla Mendoza (Westhampton Beach, N.Y.) recorded three layups in a row to increase the advantage to 14.

OW knocked down a 3-pointer before another layup by Mendoza and a 3-pointer by Muller gave Farmingdale State a 23-7 lead.

The Rams were ahead 25-12 and opened the second quarter with another 3 from Muller.

FSC led by 20, 32-12, and used a 3-pointer by freshman guard Jenna Pignataro (Farmingville, N.Y.) to take a 35-12 advantage.

Following a three-point play from Panthers' junior center Ja'nya Flash (West Hempstead, N.Y.), Zaborowska and Muller tallied 3-pointers to push the Rams lead to 26 at 41-15.

Farmingdale State took a 45-17 advantage into the halftime break and increased their lead to 60-20 after a 15-3 run to open the third quarter.

The Rams took their largest lead of the game, 64-22, with 1:21 remaining in the third on a layup from Mendoza.

Farmingdale State was outscored 24-10 in the fourth quarter but would go on for the 74-48 victory.

Muller recorded 25 points, eight rebounds, four assists, three steals and a block, while Mendoza produced 22 points, two rebounds and two assists. Zaborowska tallied 12 points, five assists and three steals and freshman forward Kalena Ricketts (Cambria Heights, N.Y.) registered two points with a game-high nine rebounds. Sophomore guards Stacy Papantoniou (Whitestone, N.Y.) and Emily Zeblisky (Northport, N.Y.) added four points off the bench in the win.

Farmingdale State next plays host to Merchant Marine for a conference matchup on Saturday, January 22nd at 2:00 p.m.
