Second Half Rally Leads FSC Past Purchase

Purchase, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's basketball team traveled to Purchase College on Tuesday evening and outscored the Panthers, 47-24, in the second half en route to the 82-59 Skyline victory.

The Rams (7-5, 5-4 Skyline) held a two-point lead, 11-9, midway through the first quarter and used a pair of baskets from freshman forward Kalena Ricketts (Cambria Heights, N.Y.) to go in front, 15-9.

FSC took a 22-13 advantage into the second before outscoring Purchase (0-11, 0-8 Skyline), 6-2, over the first 3:30 of the quarter to go ahead, 28-15.

Over the final 6:24 of the first half, the Panthers went on a 20-7 run as the game entered the break tied at 35-35.

The score remained tied, 46-46, until 3:35 left in the third quarter when Farmingdale State freshman forward Samantha Muller (North Babylon, N.Y.) and junior guard Mackenzie Tierney (Levittown, N.Y.) tallied back-to-back baskets to give FSC a 50-46 lead.

After a jumper from Purchase, freshman forward Layla Mendoza (Westhampton Beach, N.Y.) recorded a layup before four points from Muller gave the Rams a eight-point advantage, 56-48.

Farmingdale State led 62-54 with 7:26 left to play in the fourth quarter and went on a 12-0 run, including eight straight points from Mendoza, to put FSC ahead by 20, 74-54.

The Rams outscored the Panthers, 8-5, over the final three minutes as they went on for the 82-59 win.

Muller finished just one assist shy of a triple-double as she tallied 23 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists. Ricketts shot a career-best 71.4% (10-for-14) from the floor and recorded 21 points, 10 rebounds and three assists, while Mendoza produced 19 points and six rebounds. Junior guard Anna Zaborowska (East Patchogue, N.Y.) nearly had a triple-double with 13 points, eight assists and a career-high 15 rebounds in the victory.

The Rams shot 55.2% (37-for-67) from the field which now ranks sixth all-time for a single game in program history.

The women's basketball team will next play Skyline opponent Old Westbury (@ Farmingdale State) on Thursday, January 20th at 6:00 p.m.
