2008 Men’s Soccer Season Recap


Farmingdale, N.Y. – The men’s soccer team finished the season with an overall record of 13-7-1, including 8-1 in the Skyline Conference. The Rams were the regular season champions, earning them the number one seed in the conference tournament. Farmingdale defeated Old Westbury 2-0 in the Semifinals of the Skyline Playoffs before falling 1-0 at home to St. Joseph’s College in the Finals.

The Rams received their first-ever bid to the ECAC Metro Region Championship this season and hosted the Quarterfinal game against Centenary College. Farmingdale defeated Centenary 3-2 in overtime. In the Semifinals, the Rams fell to top-seeded William Patterson, who is ranked 22nd in the nation in a shootout after two scoreless overtime periods in the Semifinals.

Five players were named to the All-Skyline Team this season. Sophomore forward Ryan Paul (Sayville, N.Y.), who led the team and conference in scoring with a school record 48 points and 21 goals, was named First Team along with junior defender Mathew Arthurs (East Islip, N.Y.), senior midfielder Thomas Mueller (Babylon, N.Y.) and junior goalkeeper Patrick Gubbins (East Patchogue, N.Y.). Junior midfielder Marcos Cipra (Long Beach, N.Y.) was selected to the All-Skyline Second Team.

The Rams will return 28-31 players for the 2009 season and look towards another appearance in the Skyline Conference Playoffs.
