Maritime Deals Rams First Loss

Maritime - 14, Farmingdale State - 12


Throggs Neck, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's lacrosse team traveled to Maritime College for a Skyline Conference game this afternoon and suffered their first loss of the season, 14-12. The Rams now stand at 3-1 on the year, while the Privateers improved to a perfect 5-0.

Maritime jumped out to an early 4-0 lead before senior attack John McMahon (West Babylon, N.Y.) scored an unassisted goal for the Rams. Freshman midfielder Jason Corvi (Smithtown, N.Y.) tallied the final goal of the first quarter off the pass by senior midfielder Collin Flannery (Shoreham, N.Y.) to give the Privateers a 5-1 advantage.

In the second quarter, Maritime outscored Farmingdale State 3-0 and took an 8-1 lead into halftime.

FSC senior midfielder Corey McMahon (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) opened the third quarter with back-to-back goals off passes from senior attack Terrence Haggerty (Centerport, N.Y.) to cut the deficit to 8-3 with 5:57 remaining. After a Casey Romano (Bellport, N.Y.) score pulled the Rams within four, MT's Charles Longo (Bellport, N.Y.) answered with a goal to put the Privateers back in front by five at the end of three quarters.

Leading 9-5 early in the fourth, Maritime rattled off five straight goals, including a pair from senior midfielder Bryan Keegan (Lake Grove, N.Y.), to increase the advantage to 14-5 with 6:31 left the clock.

Over the final 4:51 of the game, Farmingdale State scored seven unanswered goals but fell short of the comeback, 14-12.

Haggerty led the way with a game-high five points on three goals and two assists, while C. McMahon added three goals. J. McMahon pitched in with two goals in the loss for Farmingdale State.

For Maritime, Keegan notched a team-high three goals and added one assist. Three other players recorded a pair of goals in the victory.

FSC next will travel to Mount Saint Vincent for a Skyline Conference game on Saturday, April 24th at 1:00 p.m.
