Rams Hold Off Mount Saint Vincent in Road Win

Farmingdale State - 79, Mount Saint Vincent - 65


Riverdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's basketball team traveled to Mount Saint Vincent this evening and earned a 79-65 road victory. With the win, FSC improved to 9-7 overall and 5-2 in conference play.

The Rams held a 15-12 advantage just over seven minutes in and used a three-point play from sophomore guard Nick Hurowitz (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) and a jumper by senior forward Dominique Senat (Elmont, N.Y.) to go in front, 20-12.

The Dolphins (6-8, 4-3 Skyline) tallied a layup on their next possession but two free-throws by Senat and a 3-pointer from freshman guard Romello Wright (Brentwood, N.Y.) gave FSC an 11-point lead, 25-14, with 9:31 on the clock.

Mount Saint Vincent outscored Farmingdale State, 12-11, to close the half as the Rams took a 36-26 advantage into the break.

Senat led FSC with 10 points and five rebounds in the first half.

The Dolphins came out quick in the second as they used a 9-1 run over the first two minutes to close within just two points at 37-35.

Still down by two, 41-39, with 13:09 on the clock, junior guard Aaron Darab (Vienna, Va.) hit a 3-pointer to put Mount Saint Vincent in front, 42-41.

On the Rams next trip down the floor, Senat was fouled and hit both free-throws to regain the lead, 43-42.

After the Dolphins tied the game with a free throw, Farmingdale State guards Corey Powell (Valley Stream, N.Y.) and Jevon Santos (Elmont, N.Y.) tallied layups to go in front, 47-43, with 11:16 to play.

Mount Saint Vincent responded with a 7-0 run, including another 3 from Darab, to take a 50-47 advantage.

With 10:11 remaining, Farmingdale State used a Tre Riggins (Baldwin, N.Y.) layup and a free-throw from Powell to tie the game at 50-50.

Still tied, 52-52, three straight baskets, from Kobe Thomas (Hicksville, N.Y.), Riggins and Powell, gave FSC a six-point edge with 7:12 on the clock.

Farmingdale State led 65-61 with 3:30 left and used a Senat layup, two free-throws by Hurowitz and an Aaron Davis (Valley Stream, N.Y.) 3-pointer to jump ahead, 72-61.

The Rams allowed just four Mount Saint Vincent points down the stretch as they went on for the 79-65 victory.

Senat scored a game-high 17 points and pulled down seven rebounds, while Hurowitz finished with 14 points, eight rebounds, two assists and two steals. Powell and Davis recorded 13 points apiece, Riggins had six points and three boards, and Santos produced four points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals in the win.

FSC next travels to play Maritime in a Skyline Conference game on Saturday, January 22nd at 1:00 p.m.
