Purchase College - 86, Farmingdale State - 73
Farmingdale, N.Y. - Purchase College junior guard Troy Singleton (Queens, N.Y.) scored a game-high 39 points as the Panthers earned an 86-73 Skyline Conference victory at Farmingdale State this afternoon. The Farmingdale State men's basketball team fell to 3-11 overall and 1-6 in the conference, while Purchase improved to 4-10, 4-3.
Trailing 22-11 with 12:32 on the clock, the Rams used a 7-0 run over the next 1:33 to pull within four, 22-18.
After the Panthers increased their lead to 45-32, Farmingdale State sophomore forward Weldon Irvine (Queens, N.Y.) closed the half by hitting a layup and converting a free-throw. Purchase held a 45-35 advantage at the break after being led by Singleton's 21 points on 7-of-10 shooting, including 4-for-5 from behind the arc.
The Panthers led 61-42 with 13:30 left to play, before an 11-2 Farmingdale State run cut the deficit to 63-51. Leading 70-58 with less than seven minutes remaining, Purchase used a 12-2 run to open up their largest lead of the game at 82-60.
Despite closing the game with nine unanswered points the Rams fell, 86-73.
Freshman forward Eriq Williams (Valley Stream, N.Y.) scored a team-high 17 points, had nine rebounds and three blocks, while freshman guard Trey Kinard (Deer Park, N.Y.) pitched in with 15 points. Irvine finished with 10 points and seven boards for Farmingdale State.
Singleton shot 11-of-17 from the field, including 6-for-9 from 3-point range and 11-for-13 at the line en route to his 39 points.
The Rams next will travel to Old Westbury for a Skyline Conference game on Thursday, January 22nd at 6:00 p.m.
